Alfresco

I attended the Alfresco Seminar this Thursday in Victoria Plaza Hotel in London.  I was expecting around 20 or so geeks in a corner talking about cool technology.  This was not the case.  The event was oversubscribed.  I don’t know exact numbers but it felt like over 120 people where there.  Not bad for a CMS just over 2 years old.

I like Alfresco.  It seems to be solved the hard problems first around versioning, clustering and making complex things appear simple.  Because as we all know,  ”its simple to make something complex, but complex to make something simple”.  Versioning something akin to subversion.  It’s tools are web 2.0 based and intuitive.  It is content is enterprise level.

Now I haven’t played with Alfresco yet, so this is just first impressions.  But what I took from the seminar is that the product is large and far reaching.  It’s going to take a bit of time to get Alfresco’d up, but that’s another blog…
