I have a few problems. After a drunken night out with some friends (I use that term very loosely indeed Mr Blotny) that I work with @ Cognifide, I ended up entering into a gentlemen’s agreement to run the Poznan Marathon on 14th October, 2007. First off, I’ve never run a marathon but I know they hurt. So that’s probably why I’m a Marathon Virgin. I’m a middle distant runner with sprint tendencies. Fast over 0-10 metres and total distance of no more than 5k. This marathon is 42.5km. What an idiot!

Anyway, I’ve started to train and realised that my body is not what it used to be – and it used to be great. My knees are shot. I have shin splints in my left leg that prevents me from running frequently. And last week I felt my stomach move of its own accord without instruction from me. But my cardio is good.
Just checking the trusty calendar and I have 17 weeks of training – well 16 weeks but you should run before the big race. So I’m going to start slowly, very slowly. However, this is very hard for me. When running I tend to push the boat out. Not too far as to unleash the full might of the “The Gibbon”, but enough to know that I’ve exercised. The problem with this is that it aggravates my shin splints terribly.
Sooooooooo…..the plan is to calm in down and aim to add 1 mile every week until I can complete a 20 mile run. If I can do that, then the last 6 miles will be down to sheer blood, sweat and tears. ‘Marathon Man’ you say. More like Mr Snickers at the moment….
Current status: 4 miles, 36 minutes, Cardio (Good), Knees (Average), Shin Splits (Bearable), Favourite Track (French Kiss, Lil Louis). Ave eet!
