Moooooo…..

For the last decade I have been heavily involved with servers. Invisible, head-less beasts that take a lot of time and effort to get right. However, I was originally attracted to computers by games. Although I don’t play too many games these days, I am still attracted to good UI design and clean web site aesthics.
Over the last couple of years I have been getting more and more interested in the Web 2.0 movement and the rise and rise of Internet Enabled applications. Now I’ve always steered clear of the browser for one key reason: JavaScript. As a Java programmer I think JavaScript is offensive, but you cannot ignore what it can do for the end-user.
Now I have been given the job of writing a small website for the missus to display some images that she wants available over the web. For reasons I won’t go into, she doesn’t want the pre-package solutions like flickr and so on, she wants her own. Enter muggins! However, by divine intervention I get this great email from a mate of mine that points me towards MooTools. Yep, you read it correctly, MooTools.
MooTools is a compact, modular, Object-Oriented javascript framework designed to make writing extensible and compatible code easier and faster. MooTools lets you get the job done efficiently and effectively.
Ahhhh, I don’t believe it, JavaScript! Cursed language. But having toured the MooTools web site, read the docs and stepped through the forums, it really is a good little framework for doing exactly what I need to do to get my website finished. And boy do I want this web site finished…
So, to work. I upgraded to FireFox 2, installed (the best FireFox plugin) Firebug and started to use MooTools. It’s a damned fine piece of software, even though it is JavaScript based. But once you get over that it really can bring your web site alive. Anyway, back to work, moooooooo…..
